Chestermere’s Own Patty Sproule Honoured as 2025 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award Recipient

We are thrilled to share that Patricia Sproule, better known in Chestermere as Patty Sproule has been named one of the 2025 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award recipients by the Government of Alberta! This prestigious honour recognizes Albertans whose selfless contributions have made a lasting impact in their communities.

Presented on December 5, 2025, during the province’s 25th anniversary of celebrating volunteerism, the award ceremony was officiated by the Honourable Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women, and Her Honour Salma Lakhani, Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor. Patty was recognized alongside seven other remarkable volunteers from across the province.

A Lifetime of Community Impact

Patty’s volunteer journey spans more than 45 years and has touched countless lives throughout Chestermere and the surrounding region. What makes her work truly inspiring is not only its longevity but the depth of its impact, especially in youth empowerment and community development.

Her contributions include:

  • Serving as a mentor and advocate for young people, helping them find their voice and confidence.

  • Founding and advising the Synergy Youth and Community Development Society.

  • Supporting grassroots initiatives such as Christmas with Dignity (now Gifts of Kindness) and civic engagement opportunities for youth.

  • Playing key roles in launching the Chestermere Community Health Centre, the Chestermere Emergency Management Agency, and the Restorative Justice Program, Project Rewrite.

  • Advocating tirelessly for inclusive and empowering spaces for high-risk youth.

One memorable milestone from her mentorship work includes helping local youth successfully advocate for the creation of Chestermere’s mountain bike park — now celebrated as one of the best in Western Canada.

A Well-Deserved Recognition

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards celebrate everyday heroes whose generosity, passion, and service help strengthen community wellbeing and social connection — and Patty Sproule embodies those values in every sense. Her belief in youth as future leaders and her unwavering support for community growth have left an indelible mark on Chestermere.
